Descripción general

A summary about the basics of the Finite Element method will be given. Examples of linear Finite Element simulations will be discussed, also using symmetries in modelling. The basics of mechanical nonlinearities will be derived with a focus on geometrical nonlinearities such as large deflections and mechanical stability such as buckling. Depending on the students' background, individual projects could be discussed.

Contenidos
  1. Principle idea and procedure of FEM
  2. Derivation of matrices and equation of equilibrium
  3. Deriving general rules for convergence from the results

Programación (10-12-2019 a 12-12-2019)
10-12-2019 10:00-13:30 horas Escuela Superior de Ingeniería. Aula C18

Dr. Armin Huss. Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Germany

Principle idea and procedure of FEM

In this class we will explain some fundamentals of FEM and start handling the software. We will study a rod with variable crosssection as a basic example.

(with a 30 mins. break)

11-12-2019 10:00-13:30 horas

Derivation of matrices and equation of equilibrium

In this class we will show the math behind the method, and we will practice with some more examples.

(with a 30 mins. break)

12-12-2019 10:00-13:30 horas

Deriving general rules for convergence from the results

In this class we will show the theoretical background of convergence from the results the software gives us.

(with a 30 mins. break)

Información adicional

Previous knowledge of Elasticity and Strength of Materials recommended.

Important note: The course is focused on computer simulation, using HyperWorks™ (software and license will be provided). Bringing own laptop is recommended. Laptops can also be borrowed from ESI Library. Do not worry about the OS. Student version is available at https://altairuniversity.com/free-hyperworks-2017-student-edition/
